MISSIONS
Two stories from the Gospels illustrate the heart of missions: Jesus reaching out to touch and heal a leper, and the salvation of the thief on the cross. The healing of the leper represents a willingness to go against societal expectations and "what makes sense" in order to meet the real needs of someone who was lost and written off. It may have been decades since the leper felt the touch of another human–yet Jesus was willing to literally reach out to him in his need. The story of the thief on the cross shows how Jesus, through the gift of saving grace through faith, gave new life to a dying man. This man was guilty of sin, yet Jesus rescued him to Himself in paradise. As Christians, we have the same precious Gospel of Jesus, and we have an opportunity to use it the same way. We can take risks and sacrifice for the real and present needs of the lost, and we can offer immediate and forever spiritual rescue by sharing the Gospel today.
